About Zenreikan Aikido – Martial Arts & Aikido in Southport Zenreikan Aikido is a dedicated martial arts school in Southport, specialising in traditional Aikido. Affiliated with the North West Aikikai, the dojo teaches Aikido as practised at the Aikikai Honbu Dojo in Japan, while also drawing significant influence from the Iwama style of Aikido and the comprehensive weapons curriculum developed by Morihiro Saito. Founded by Alan Howells and Carl Hughes, Zenreikan first opened in Ormskirk on 26th February 2013 before relocating to Southport in September 2014. Since then, the dojo has provided high-quality Aikido training in Southport for adults seeking traditional Japanese martial arts instruction in a welcoming and supportive environment. Zenreikan is a non-profit martial arts club, with all instructors teaching on a voluntary basis. Student insurance is provided through the United Kingdom Aikikai>, ensuring members train with recognised national affiliation. Following Japanese martial arts tradition, the school was named by Les Baker. Sensei Baker continues to mentor and guide the instructors at Zenreikan while teaching at the Tenshinkan Dojo in **Waterloo>, Liverpool. The name Zenreikan translates as "The House of Respect Through Pure Thought." Respect is one of the Seven Virtues of Budo, and training at Zenreikan encourages students to develop this alongside the universal martial arts values of Integrity, Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty, and Loyalty. These principles form the foundation of every Aikido class and help students develop confidence, discipline, and personal growth both on and off the mat. Zenreikan currently offers adult Aikido classes in Southport. Young people aged 13 and over are welcome to train at the Tenshinkan Dojo in Waterloo, Liverpool.
